School Based Direct Care Worker (Paraprofessional)

Whitney Hall School educates students, Kindergarten-12, who live in the community, but are challenged with behavioral, psychiatric & learning difficulties requiring a small classroom setting. Students are referred to the program by their local school systems. The purpose of the program is to help students obtain skills & learning strategies to manage their own behaviors so they can return to a public school setting.

Schedule:

Full Time, 35 hours per week
School schedule 7:45 a.m. – 2:45 p.m.
Plus Extended School Year Summer Schedule
Days Off:  Saturday / Sunday
Hourly pay range is $14.01-18.83, commensurate with experience/education.

Skills:

Capacity to work in partnership with teachers to maintain a safe learning environment. Ability to assist students with academic assignments. Ability to prevent crisis and de-escalate potential crisis. Ability to supervise groups of young people on work assignments and in their residential activities. Interest in young people and mature judgment in dealing with their behavioral problems. Knowledge of childcare and housekeeping methods. A valid driver’s license with a safe driving record is also required.

Education:

Associates degree or equivalent education is required. BA/BS in Human Services or Education is preferred.

Experience:

One to two years working in an academic setting with children who have learning disabilities and emotional disturbance is preferred.
