The Children's Center of Hamden offers treatment to children who are at risk of
out-of-home placement or hospitalization and to children who are returning to
the community after receiving such care. The program meets after school five days
a week during the academic year and mornings in the summer and school vacation
weeks. It provides therapy, case management, referral and advocacy to children
and families so that the youth's symptoms are reduced, behaviors are managed and
the child is able to continue to live in the community.
Youngsters participate in a structured program within a trauma sensitive
therapeutic milieu. Services are under the direction of a physician and include
therapy groups, rehabilitation groups, therapeutic enrichment, individual
therapy, family therapy, multiple family therapy, medication management and
psychiatric evaluation.
Participation from the adult caretakers is a crucial factor in youth completing
this treatment experience successfully. All guardians are expected to create,
with us, crisis plans to ensure safety at all times.
Note: this program provides priority access to referrals from the Department of
Children and Families (DCF), and Local Systems of Care. For more information,
